Congratulations on your score! The link works OK, but since your theatre is several hundred miles from me, I'm wondering how you found out about this, because the only other info Fandango will give me about the film is that it opens on September 30. What I mean is: how can I use Fandango to find out if there's a preview in my area?

You can do it through Fandango by putting in your city or ZIP code and specifying "Special Advance Preview" as the movie name.

I tried it with your ZIP code and it doesn't appear to be playing near there at a Fandango-enabled theatre.

According to http://www.cantstopthesignal.com, the preview in your area is at the Van Ness 14 and tickets were available via http://www.movietickets.com, but it's sold out and the link has been deactivated.

I used the Van Ness 14's ZIP code (posted on cantstopthesignal.com) at movietickets.com to get to the page for the theatre and selected June 23 as the date. It did show "Special Advance Preview" showing at that theatre at 10:00 on that date, but it's sold out via that route too.

So... not much help, sorry, but hopefully you'll be able to use this information in the future.

OK, now these things are just taunting me. This time there is one in the NYC area (by their definition New Jersey=New York, NY...) but by the time I find out about tickets they're all sold out. How does one find out about it before it's too late? Did you have to refresh the website every five minutes or something?

Oh well. Looks like I'm waiting until September, then. Have fun!

Seattle tickets were Not Sold Out... but we had no cash. By the time I arranged cash, there were no tickets. *grumble*

Guess I'll hae to wait until it really comes out. Although I'm a bit worried. With all the previews happening, and the fans going to see it now, who's going to go when it gets released?

Enjoy! I caught the first showing back in April (May?), and was glad to have gotten the early chance. Let us know if you end up with actors at your showing!

I learned about the date of the preview through a rumor posted by jenwrites in her LJ. I knew where the previous preview had been, so I checked Fandango for that theatre on that date, but it wasn't yet available... too far in advance.

I checked Fandango again the next morning and the next afternoon, then every few hours, until the show did appear. But when I tried to buy tickets it just hung. I tried again several times, until it started working. This time it went all the way through the purchasing process only to end with "sold out."

This was like half an hour after the show first appeared. Because the time was so short and the link to buy tickets was still active, I suspected that "sold out" in this case might mean "not yet fully available," so I kept trying. I tried every half an hour or so, with the same result, until the link to buy tickets deactivated, when I gave up.

But I tried again later that afternoon, and this time the link was active again, and the process went all the way through and I got my tickets.

So it was a combination of listening to rumors, using knowledge gained from earlier events, knowing something about how websites work, dumb luck, and persistence. Lots and lots of persistence.

Having a rather slow workday helped too.

Sorry about the tickets/cash snafu.

Don't worry about not having anyone to see the movie with. There are a lot of Firefly fans who aren't rabid enough (or lucky enough) to get preview tickets; and a lot of the ones who are rabid enough to get preview tickets will want to see it again.

We have about the right number of theaters because even though Iowa City isn't actually a city, it is a pretty big town. We've got a three-plex downtown that brings in horror flicks and other movies I don't want to see. And a mall six-plex in the next town over, and another mall six-plex on the other side of town, both of which bring in the Disney and the blockbusters. I don't go out to the movies all that much, and finding a babysitter is only partly why.

I thought about joining the Browncoats, but it seems much too intense and serious, what with the requirement to join before you can even see the message boards and the whole points thing. Though I'm a fan of Joss's, the whole Browncoats thing feels a bit too manipulative, too much a carefully crafted viral marketing initiative.
