Just back from [livejournal.com profile] jaylake's annual birthday bash at Old Town Pizza, along with [livejournal.com profile] deedop, [livejournal.com profile] chef_chopper, [livejournal.com profile] specficrider, [livejournal.com profile] djonn, [livejournal.com profile] coreolis, and many other keen people.

One of the activities at the party was the cutting out and coloring of Jay Lake Paper Dolls, including the one below which was made by [livejournal.com profile] kateyule (which I have placed behind an lj-cut for the protection of the viewer's sanity).

While walking back to the car I saw something that made me wonder: why is it that when a bar says in the window "Lounge - Dining - Entertainment" you know it's probably a skanky bar, while if it says something like "Joe's Skanky Bar" it's probably quite nice inside?

That's a very good observation! Now you've got me going, too, about meta-issues like how we promote appearance over substance, and if we want one result, we often are forced, by reverse psychology, to behave is if we want the other...

You should use that someplace in your writing.

Crazy(Or, you're perfectly entitled to slap me on the wrist, and tell me to use it in mine, point being, of course, that I should be writing more....)Soph
