I generally liked it a lot, but had a problem with one of the major decisions Joss made. If you're interested in reading my old posts about it from the first preview showing, they're here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/jenwrites/218639.html), here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/jenwrites/219119.html), and here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/jenwrites/219538.html).

Does one need to have ever seen an episode of the TV series to enjoy it? I know next to nothing about the premise and zero about the characters. But I do yearn for a good sf yarn.

Our local boy Mike Russell (and my colleague at DVD Journal) has a nifty piece about it in The Weekly Standard (http://weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/005/757fhfxg.asp).
