This peeve just wandered in and I'm wondering if I want to adopt it as a pet: people who write redundant things like "$25 dollars." I've seen it in several professionally-produced ads from reputable companies and it just makes me shake my head in sorrow.

That one irritates me, too. Trying to be charitable, I sort of assume they pick it up from the correct usage of "$25 Million."

One of my pets is the "have got" construction -- "We've got what you want!" Arrrrgh!

Isn't there some ordinance that governs how many pets each brain can have?

Like using your PIN number at the ATM machine?
(Just to mention two of my favorites.)

Oh, yeah. Inadvertant redundancies. They crop up quite often when people abuse acronyms. HSA account. PIN number. Drives me batty.

Nothing makes me battier than misplaced apostrophes, though. I see them more often, and they annoy me more.

Oh, thanks so much. I hadn't been noticing that, and now it'll pop out at me every damned time.
